  1. Finely chop the onion and bell pepper.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. When the beef is about halfway cooked, add the chopped onion and bell pepper.
  6. Continue to cook until the beef is fully browned and the vegetables are softened.
  7. Divide the cooked beef mixture into four portions in the skillet.
  8. Place a slice of American cheese on top of each portion.
  9. Allow the cheese to melt, then mix it into the beef.
